Clothing to Fuel

As part of their Re.Uniqlo programme, if you take your unwanted clothes back into Uniqlo stores in Japan, they'll burn them - yes, you read that right. Clothes they deem unwearable will be transformed into solid pellets and used as industrial fuel. They claim this substitutes fossil fuels, until you remember the majority of Uniqlo's clothes are already made from fossil fuels. Burning clothing waste for energy is not a good thing to be incentivising, both from an emissions and circularity perspective, still less when Uniqlo are using this to greenwash.
