Eckes-Granini climate neutral juice

The Eckes-Granini Group, a fruit juice company based in Germany, claims that all its products are now carbon neutral.

To achieve this, the company worked with ClimatePartner to analyse their footprint and then paid for offsets for the majority of their emissions. Their offsets fund the protection of an area of rainforest in Brazil.

However, offsetting projects are unreliable and difficult to measure and as such are a false solution to emissions reductions and should not be displayed on products. This project specifically relies on the idea that the area that they are protecting would have otherwise been chopped down and given that carbon remains in the atmosphere indefinitely, also relies on the trees remaining there indefinitely, which they cannot guarantee
