Conagra's Evol carbon neutral
In 2021 Conagra, an American packaged food company introduced 8 meat and dairy-based meals through its Evol brand, which claimed to be carbon neutral.
This label is a clear case of over-inflating green claims in order to attract consumers. Products were verified by the Carbonfund.org’s Carbonfree® Product Certification Program.
Evol measures the emissions from the products’ full life cycle and then offsets these with investments in renewable energy and forest preservation projects via Carbonfund.org’s certification scheme. Yet not only is offsetting a false solution, but they also do not provide clarity on their calculations and what emissions are included, nor any details about the projects they’re funding.
