Carbon neutral

Central Lechera Asturiana are using carbon neutral claims about their packaging to promote their dairy products.

They claim the cartons and bottles are carbon neutral, despite the fact that cartons are impossible to fully recycle due to the multiple materials involved, and are unlikely to be even partially recycled in most jurisdictions. The same applies for bottles being plastic and single-use as Spain has only a 25% plastic recycling rate.

This claim is additionally misleading as the emissions related to the packaging will be far less than from the production of the dairy product it contains.

Central Lechera Asturiana have also sought to promote their products by claiming carbon neutrality of their factories without disclosing what this actually involves and what the emissions accounted for are.

In all cases their claims lack transparency on emissions and provide scant detail on reductions made, especially those from dairy farming, the main source of their emissions.
