Mentos paperboard canister
Perfetti Van Melle, one of the top plastic polluters according to the Break Free From Plastic’s 2020 brand audit, has unveiled new packaging as part of their sustainability initiative – a “certified recyclable bottle” 90% paperboard packaging for mentos.
According to the company, the new paper tube is made of “Boardio fiber-based material, which interweaves small layers of aluminum and polyethylene into virgin fiber material”. The product’s website description claims this packaging is recyclable, yet such a blended mix of materials is, in practice, impossible to recycle.
