Zara's take-back scheme
Zara's take back scheme is a virtue signal to try and demonstrate they are committed to responsible recycling and circularity. They claim you can return 'any clothes to give them a new life' yet the majority of clothing donated in this way ends up as waste, particularly if in poor condition. This burdens low-income countries with piles of textile waste that overwhelm landfills and dumpsites - and globally, only 0.1% of textiles are recycled. Alongside the limitations of these schemes, there is no transparency about where these items actually end up.
